Ceramic bowl

This is a picture of my  Ceramic Bowl that I made in class. The main idea of the  Introduction to the Visual Arts class is to learn how to draw and create art with different art tools which include brushes, ink pens, line art, and much more different kinds of art. As a student, we learn how to draw and learn to use art tools.

My artwork is a ceramic bowl with 4 sides and shaped like a square, my design is supposed to be something related to nature because I love flowers and plants, so I decided to use the stamps to add the rose shapes for the decorations. The title of my work is “roses”. The most obvious element in my work is the texture of the rose decorations. This ceramic bowl project was made with clay and some stamping tools. There are 6 steps to doing this project:

1) Roll out a slab

2) put the design of the bowl on the slab, using the needle tool to trace and after that use the same tool with the ruler to cut it straight

3) Use the scoring tools for each edge and put the slip after it. Gently folded all 4 sides together ( Use something to help the bowl stands)

4) Use the stamps to decorate your bowl

5) Choose the color for your bowl

6) glaze the bowl

For this project, the rose is my favorite flower, and that makes me always want to do a project that is related to it, so the rose inspired my project. Since it’s close to prom, I think the rose represents romance,  prom is pretty romantic for most teenagers, so my bowl is pretty related to prom and how excited and prepared I am for this coming up event. As an artist, my goal is to be better at understanding textures and how they should be connected all together. This piece does help me to complete my goal. Because when I use the stamps, all the roses need to have a connection together with a good amount of spacing and details. I learned how to build up a bowl with sticking and tracing, besides building it by the wheels. The final results are pretty satisfactory for me because it was exactly what I imagine it was supposed to be, I said it’s satisfactory because this is a pretty simple and enjoyable project to do. This piece really focuses on the details and texture and this will influence my future art by knowing how to combine all the shapes together without making it looks messy.
